Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal visited the K-IV Filter Plant in Gadap today to review the progress of the project. Sindh Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah and Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui were also present on the occasion.

Speaking to the media, Ahsan Iqbal said that the K-IV project is a vital initiative to address Karachi’s severe water shortage and is being fully funded by the Federal Government. He noted that although water falls under provincial jurisdiction after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, Karachi’s national importance has led the federal government to take this special responsibility.

He stated that the project includes three major reservoirs — two with a capacity of 65 million gallons each and one of 30 million gallons — all of which will be filled by December 2026. Once completed, the project will supply 260 million gallons of water per day to Karachi.

The Federal Minister added that the Sindh Government is working on augmentation and power supply for the project, and the provincial authorities have assured that their part will also be completed on time.

Sindh Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah said that delays occurred due to World Bank formalities; however, the Chief Minister of Sindh has allocated special funds to ensure timely completion of the project and to help resolve Karachi’s water crisis.

Earlier, the Federal Minister also attended the International Conference titled “Sustainable and Resilient Pakistan in a Changing Global Order 2025 to 26” at the Applied Economics Research Centre, University of Karachi and the CEO Summit as the Chief Guest in Karach.
