Karachi: The Karachi Traffic Police has announced major traffic restrictions on rickshaws and taxis in several busy markets of the city ahead of Chand Raat shopping activities.
The decision aims to reduce congestion and maintain smooth traffic flow during the peak shopping hours when thousands of residents visit markets to prepare for Eid al-Fitr.
Major Roads Closed for Rickshaws and Taxis
According to traffic authorities, rickshaws, taxis, and other commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter key commercial zones.
The following major roads will remain restricted for commercial traffic:
- Rashid Minhas Road
- Tariq Road
Traffic police said commercial vehicles will be diverted to alternate routes to reduce traffic pressure in these high-traffic shopping areas.
Traffic Restrictions in Saddar Area
Additional restrictions will also be implemented in the busy Saddar district.
The following routes will have limited access:
- From Fawara Chowk to GPO Chowk
- From Singer Chowk to Rex Centre
Authorities say the restrictions are necessary because these areas experience extreme traffic congestion during Chand Raat shopping.
Alternative Routes for Drivers
To manage traffic pressure, the traffic police have arranged alternative routes for drivers traveling through busy areas such as:
- Clifton Bridge
- Teen Talwar
- Race Course
Motorists are advised to follow traffic police instructions and use designated diversion routes.
Extra Police Deployment
Traffic authorities confirmed that additional police officers have been deployed across major markets and roads to assist citizens and ensure traffic discipline during the festive rush.
“These arrangements are meant to facilitate shoppers and prevent severe traffic jams during Chand Raat,” traffic officials said.
Residents are encouraged to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with traffic police to ensure smooth movement across the city.
